Nick’s story
Nick Talbot-Butler was the very first employee of Rigby Capital. Many of us know him as a colleague, a friend and a constant presence during the company’s early growth. Fewer will know the extent of the personal journey Nick and his family have been navigating over recent years following his cancer diagnosis.
Like many families affected by cancer, the impact went far beyond the individual. Alongside the physical realities of treatment came emotional, psychological and practical challenges, not least for Nick’s daughter, Charley, who is now just 13 and has so much to process about what her dad’s illness means for her and for their family.
Finding appropriate support for a young person in that position was really difficult. Nick spent considerable time searching for help all over the UK to no avail, but then by chance came across Beechwood, virtually on his doorstep. Beechwood has a reputation for offering support that isn’t clinical, overwhelming or inaccessible, but is somewhere that understands cancer as a family experience, not just a medical one.
Why Beechwood matters
Beechwood provides holistic support to people affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, including crucial services for children and young people. Their approach recognises that emotional wellbeing, mental health and family support are just as important as physical care.
For Charley, Beechwood offers a safe space to talk about difficult questions, make sense of her feelings and feel less alone in an experience no child chooses. For Nick, it is the reassurance that his daughter is being supported with empathy, professionalism and understanding.
It is this wraparound, human-centred approach that resonates so strongly with us as a business.
Our donation to Beechwood does not replace or diminish our ongoing support for Honeypot, the young carers charity we continue to champion. Honeypot’s work with young carers, many of whom quietly shoulder extraordinary responsibility at a young age, remains close to our hearts and we are committed to continuing our patronage there.
Instead, we see this as a broadening of our impact.
Honeypot and Beechwood share a common purpose: supporting children and families whose lives are shaped by circumstances beyond their control. Together, they represent what we think of as our southern and northern charity partners, enabling us to support families across different regions and experiences, while staying true to the same core values.
Looking ahead
As Rigby Capital continues to grow, so too does our responsibility to use our platform, resources and voice thoughtfully. Supporting charities like Beechwood and Honeypot is not about ticking a CSR box; it’s about standing alongside people during moments that truly matter.
We are incredibly proud of Nick for sharing his journey, grateful to Beechwood for the care they provide and committed to continuing our support for charities that change lives quietly, compassionately and for the better.
